Project
M1 J10a Improvement

Overview

Value £550,000
Duration 12 Weeks
Main Contractor Volker Fitzpatrick
Client Highways England
Location

The project involved the removal of the roundabout and widening of the M1 spur road to three lanes. This provided a continuous east-west carriageway with a speed limit of 50mph. London Road itself will be realigned to pass under the M1 spur, through a newly constructed underpass that also provides both pedestrian and cycle routes.

The 88m long 2 lane box culvert that allows the new m1 spur road to cross it was completed with 17 weeks delivering the structure to the client 7 weeks earlier than planned. The box culvert was poured in 4 22m long sections with base, wall and roof slab pours being consecutively poured in stages making huge efficiency savings.

The wingwalls were constructed in single lift pours ahead of the main culvert box allowing works to carry on with out waiting for formwork and falsework to be struck allowing planned durations to be reduced. Sian Formwork Ltd undertook this project as a complete package providing all aspects of reinforcement, formwork and falsework, scaffolding and distribution of materials.
