The scheme will upgrade 21 miles of the road to three lanes in each direction between Cambridge and Huntingdon adding additional capacity, boosting the local and national economy and cutting up to 20 minutes off journeys.

The works for this project include 8 major structures constructed next to and over the existing live A1 and A14 carriageways.

With bridge abutments over 60m long and in excess of 9m high the complex shutter and scaffold interfaces were carefully planned and designed to fit together on site with no clashes ensuring programme was met.

Planning and design were critical to the success of the project. With early contractor engagement potential issues were able to be designed out at the planning stage.
